Total Joint Program
Northwest Specialty Hospital’s Total Joint Program Featuring a Nurse Navigator
At Northwest Specialty Hospital, our Total Joint Program is designed to provide you with seamless, supportive experience before, during and after your joint replacement surgery. Central to this program is your Nurse Navigator – a skilled healthcare professional who serves as your personal resource through your surgical journey.
What to Expect with access to a Nurse Navigator:
- Patient Education: Weekly classes that explain what to expect before, during and after surgery including medications, physical therapy, and recovery. They are available in person or virtually. *See classes below.
- Recovery Support: After surgery your Nurse Navigator is available for questions about managing your pain, incisional care, and mobility needs to name a few.
- A Compassionate Point of Contact: Whether you need help with understanding instructions or just reassurance, your Nurse Navigator is here to make the process less overwhelming.
Preoperative Total Joint Replacement Education
The NWSH education staff has developed classes that focus on being prepared for total joint replacement surgery. Our nurse navigators have collaborated with pharmacists, physical therapists and physicians to create an educational experience that prepares patients for surgery.
In Person and Virtual classes are offered. Please contact the Nurse Navigation team for details, 208-500-9813.
Pre-Operative Education
- In person classes are offered weekly for all joint replacement patients, including hips, knees, and shoulders. The class is approximately 90 minutes long. To RSVP and for more details please contact your Nurse Navigation Team by phone at 208-500-9813; or by email at nwsh.joint@nwsh.com.
- Virtual Education is offered by following the NWSH link below. You will navigate to the appropriate surgery and watch a pre recorded class. This can be done at your convenience anytime before surgery, though we do recommend 2-3 weeks before the surgery date.
Post-Operative Education
- Post Operative Education is offered virtually to answer commonly asked questions after joint replacement surgery. See link below.
