Imaging Services
CT Scans
Prepare For Your Appointment
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to exams for registration.
- Please try to wear clothing without metal around the area that is being imaged. (For example, remove necklaces/earrings for imaging of neck).
CT scans with IV contrast:
- Do not eat anything for 4 hours prior to your appointment. You can have clear liquids (water, apple juice) and take all your regular medications. Drink plenty of water so you are hydrated for the IV placement.
- Please note: CT contrast contains iodine. If you have an iodine allergy, please contact your doctor ASAP so they can prescribe premedication prior to your appointment. If you are unsure or have questions about contrast, please call the imaging department and ask for a technologist.
CT scans with Oral Contrast:
- Follow the instructions above for scans with IV contrast and avoid food for 4 hours before your appointment.
- In addition, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your exam. You will be asked to drink oral contrast in the lobby before your scan.
- Please make sure not to eat or drink anything else once you begin drinking oral contrast, as this can affect image quality.
CT scans of heart (ex: CT Calcium Score):
- Avoid food, caffeine, exercise, smoking, or anything that could increase your heart rate the morning of your exam. (All cardiac exams are scheduled in the morning.)
