Prepare For Your Appointment

Before your appointment

• Inform the breast imaging team of any new changes or concerns regarding your breasts at the earliest opportunity. We want to ensure you are scheduled for the right kind of breast imaging exam.
• If you have had mammograms or other breast imaging at an outside facility, please provide us with the following details so we may obtain the imaging records on your behalf:
  • The name of the facility where your imaging was performed.
  • The city and state of the facility.
    *The sooner we receive your previous images, the sooner we can provide you with your results.

Our patient history form includes questions used to assess one’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. If you have extensive and/or complex family history related to breast cancer, you may find it helpful to prepare simple notes. Your technologist will help clarify any questions with you during the exam.

On the day of your appointment

• Do not apply any deodorant, lotions, or powders to your underarms, breasts, or the surrounding area on the day of your appointment.
  *If it cannot be avoided, we have cleansing wipes in the changing rooms to remove these prior to the exam.
• Wear a comfortable two-piece outfit.
• Eat, drink, and take your medication as you normally would.

Let your technologist know if you

• have noticed any new changes or have concerns regarding your breasts.
• have trouble standing or holding still without support.
• are breastfeeding.
• are or might be pregnant.
