Orthopedic Surgery

You’re feeling pain, swelling and stiffness. It hurts, and even though you’ve been icing it and taking pain relievers every day, it just won’t go away. Or maybe you’ve had a sudden injury that requires immediate attention and you’ve been referred to an orthopedic surgeon by your doctor. You now want to know more about your orthopedic surgeon and where you may be going for treatment.

Northwest Specialty Hospital exclusively focuses on specific procedures like orthopedics. That focus allows us to provide you with a team of surgeons who are board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) and use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to provide you with the very best surgical care and outcomes possible.

They are experienced local surgeons who own and operate Northwest Specialty Hospital which means that they have designed the care they provide around you.

They perform their procedures in a facility that has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval® by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care and sets the highest standards for health care quality throughout the world. Northwest underwent a thorough evaluation to achieve the Gold Seal of Approval®, which is their highest honor and demonstrates our commitment to the highest level of clinical excellence.

Specializing in elective procedures also means that we can take the time to provide educational classes prior to your procedure so that you know what to expect and we can verify that all of our patients are ready for surgery. We offer some of the lowest infection and complication rates in the country, and we combine this with state-of-the-art robotic technology that uses ultraviolet light to disinfect rooms in ways that traditional cleaning methods and hospitals may not.

We are most known for our amazing care. Our motto is patients first. That means that we design healthcare around you and put your needs first every time. Northwest continuously ranks in the top 10% of hospitals nationally for patient satisfaction as ranked by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This distinction earned us a five-star designation for patient satisfaction that identifies the top-ranking hospitals in the nation. We earned this reputation by offering a team of compassionate nurses who provide you personalized attention inside clean, comfortable rooms while you enjoy a filet mignon with crème brûlée or just a burger with fries and a shake. Your guests will enjoy gourmet Starbucks coffee, free Wi-Fi, free parking, and notification updates about your care.

The best part is that these services are available to everyone. We are contracted with most major insurance providers and offer some of the most competitive prices in the Pacific Northwest with several financing options designed to be flexible within your budget.

Orthopedic Surgery

I’ve been blessed with great mentors during my medical training, including Dr. Robert Coles, Dr. Tom Huntsman, Dr. Dana Covey, Dr. Matthew Provencher, Dr. Marc Phillipon, Dr. Peter Millett, Dr. John Feagin and Dr. Richard Steadman. And yet, the most amazing and gratifying part of my orthopaedic practice is the education and insight awarded to me every day by my patients. They test and refine my skills and show me my blind spots and my shortcomings. I am always grateful to my patients for what they teach me.

I am committed to cultivating an exceptional team. They share my vision for excellence, compassion, and attention to detail. I know your experience of our practice is shaped by many moments when I am not present in person: scheduling visits, requesting forms and letters, seeking answers to basic questions, grappling with insurance issues and bills, etc. My team and I know that our patients deserve our availability for great service and timely responses to questions and concerns. We are always working towards a patient experience that we would appreciate for ourselves and our own families.

As a fellowship-trained sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon, I specialize in the treatment of shoulder, hip and knee conditions. Over the years I have been involved in numerous research projects and have published papers and book chapters about the care of sports injuries and the best techniques and treatments for them. You can view my CV here. Most of the surgeries I perform are done arthroscopically: using very small incisions and a camera or “scope” in your injured joint to facilitate repairs. I also perform open, traditional surgeries when they are indicated. My most common procedures include: rotator cuff repair, shoulder labral repair, clavicle fracture repair, hip labral repair, correction of hip impingement, ACL reconstruction, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage repair or regeneration, patellar instability correction, and the routine treatment of fractures. I utilize both platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells derived from your own bone marrow (BMAC) to augment healing when indicated
