On April 6, the Coeur d’Alene Resort hosted the 2024 North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame (NIHOF) Banquet, honoring individuals who left a lasting mark on Idaho athletics. Sponsored by several organizations, including Northwest Specialty Hospital (NWSH), StanCraft, and P1FCU, the event highlighted the achievements of this year’s inductees alongside the broader mission of the NIHOF.

NIHOF is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring those who have achieved significant recognition in Idaho athletics or have made extraordinary contributions to the North Idaho sports community. Through its annual induction ceremonies, NIHOF ensures that the legacies of its members endure, serving as an inspiration for future generations of athletes.

The banquet is also a time to honor outstanding student athletes, coaches, and teams currently at North Idaho high schools and colleges. The 2024 banquet provided an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of current and former student-athletes in every sport, and their presence underscored the importance of athletics in fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship within the community.

NIHOF is an organization that is very dear to Rick Rasmussen, CEO of NWSH. Rick’s father was a coach at Coeur d’Alene High School for over 30 years and is a member of the North Idaho Hall of Fame. Rick himself played football and other sports while attending CHS. He went on to play football and run track in college, and his wife and daughters were also standout athletes at CHS. Rick has been on the board of NIHOF since 2014.

This year’s honorees were Randy Mueller, Jackie Ross-Mattox, Darrah Eggers, and Bill Bopp:

  • Randy Mueller, with four decades of experience in professional football management, brought a wealth of knowledge to the sport.
  • Jackie Ross-Mattox, a standout track and field athlete, not only excelled in competition but also paved the way for future athletes.
  • Darrah Eggers, a multi-sport standout and influential figure in high school sports administration, showcased the impact of dedication and leadership.
  • Bill Bopp, a seasoned basketball official, contributed significantly to the integrity of the game over his career.

As the evening concluded, it was evident that the 2024 NIHOF Banquet was a success in honoring the achievements of its inductees while promoting the values of dedication, leadership, and excellence in Idaho athletics. This year, student athletes, Hall of Fame honorees, their families and supporters attending the banquet numbered over 900, setting a record for the annual NIHOF banquet. Through the support of sponsors like Northwest Specialty Hospital, NIHOF continues to uphold its mission of preserving the rich heritage of Idaho sports for future generations.

NWSH is proud to support NIHOF and believes that their mission aligns with its own. Playing competitive sports can be integral to a healthy lifestyle and encourages the development of mental and physical discipline. NWSH has the further privilege of meeting many of the young athletes in North Idaho by offering free sports physicals so that youngsters can participate in school athletics.
