The Northwest Specialty Hospital (NWSH) Nurse Residency Program will provide education, support, and guidance to new nurses as they begin their careers in NWSH. It is a yearlong, extensive clinical orientation and professional development curriculum for new nurses.  Northwest Specialty Hospital is committed to providing Nurse Residents with the training, mentoring, and experience needed for a successful lifelong career in nursing.

The year-long Nurse Residency Program is provided to nurses who have less than one year of experience and less than 6 months hospital acute-care experience in the following areas. 

  • Inpatient Surgical Department
  • Perioperative Services
  • Operating Room
  • Urgent Care
  • Endoscopy Department

Nurse Residency Program cohorts are twice a year beginning after graduations of nursing programs.

Program Overview

Our 12-month program provides Nurse Residents with:

  • Monthly education workshops with social networking support
  • Northwest Steps individualized orientation.
  • Continual support from a Student Liaison, Leadership, and preceptor
  • Education and guidance on typical NWSH policies and procedures
  • Support from a community of caring, experienced nurses

Nurse Residency Program Requirements

  • Have graduated with an ADN or BSN
  • Hold an active Idaho Registered Nurse License (prior to start date)
  • Completed required vaccinations, background check, and drug screening
  • Agree to work at least 0.6FTE for the entire program
  • Participation in monthly residency classes
