Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an internist and a family medicine doctor?
Internal medicine doctors and family medicine physicians are both primary care providers. The biggest difference between the two are the types of patients they see. While family medicine providers care for people of all ages, internal medicine doctors focus solely on adults ages 18 and older. This deep understanding of adult disease allows internists to treat and manage a broad spectrum of health conditions.
What should I bring to my appointment at Northwest Internal Medicine?
We recommend that our patients bring a list of their current medications, including any over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements, with them to their appointment. In addition, patients should write down a list of their most significant health concerns or symptoms to help guide their discussion with Dr. Benson at Northwest Internal Medicine. Also, always bring your health insurance card and photo ID to your doctor’s visit so we can verify your coverage.

At Northwest Internal Medicine in Post Falls, we provide preventive care, chronic disease management, and geriatric care. Our team is committed to health education, too. We’ll listen to your concerns, help you understand your health condition, and give you lifestyle tips to enhance your well-being.
